The Juneja family contacted me to be their Mount Washington Newborn Photographer because they had seen my work with Rainbow Babies. They had lost their sweet daughter Eva not too long before they found out they were pregnant again with her sibling. Their story made me want to work that much harder to give them the best possible experience with their maternity and newborn sessions. Today we will be reviewing their newborn session.

I like to start all of my newborn sessions with parent poses. I do this because it’s a warm 80 to 82 degrees in the studio (so we can keep our naked infants warm and cozy), but hair tends to fall when it’s this warm and makeup also starts to melt off. Also, if there are siblings, they tend to want to get out of the studio quickly to avoid the heat. Once parent poses are over, then mommies usually throw their hair up into a top knot to be cooler and more comfortable the rest of the session.

After parent posing, I will move on to the beanbag if baby is still pretty sleepy and continue with my blanket prop posing flow.

Once I have completed the blanket poses, I move onto the prop shots. These are actually my favorite poses to do of baby by themselves. I think it is because I love the extra depth and dimension that a prop adds to the image. Normally I will shoot 2-3 props, but if my newborn is doing well and still pretty sleepy then I will continue on until they wake. I really like to take advantage of all of the time I have with each baby while they are happily sleepy away!
