I had a newborn photography experience “first” a few weeks ago with a micropreemie. Miss Scarlett was on my baby schedule for March 2016 and she decided she was ready to take on the world on December 11, 2015. I watched her fight her way through every medical milestone, day in and day out, with determination through all of her parents’ social media posts. Scarlett was in the hospital for a few months, but with each photo her mommy was posting, my heart would leap for joy because I could see how far she was progressing. It was a momentous day when Scarlett finally got her feeding tube out and was released to go home a couple of days later.
We did Scarlett’s “newborn” session at 10 weeks old, which is really “old” considering most newborn sessions are photographed within the first two weeks of life. Technically speaking, she was still ‘like a newborn’ due to the adjusted timetable according to her original due date. She ended up being one of the easiest and best babies I have ever had the pleasure to work with. She slept like a dream and let me put her in every single setup that I had laid out for the session. Most times I will throw together more setups than possible to get through in a typical session just in case I have a really good sleeper. That adds several extra images to a parent’s gallery as a bonus for bringing me such a sleepy baby!
Here are my Top 20 favorites from Scarlett’s session:
